This is a picture of Conrad's head, he did have previous head gasket failure from the small washers at much lower power levels. Conrad did have the larger washers installed running the higher power, but unfortunately the head damage was not caught and the head gaskets failed. I know of other head gasket failures with the small ARP hardware on cars in the 600 wheel HP range. We had always used stock head bolts and washers on our builds until recently when we switched to ARP L19 with large washers for high power cars. Because we had never seen or heard of this damage to the heads before, we wanted to make sure others know what to look for to avoid future head gasket failures.
